Lebanese Parliament Speaker Says Framework Agreement Has Failed, Situation Is Dangerous

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said on Friday that the U.S.-mediated framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel has collapsed, warning that Israel could seize more Lebanese territory if it chooses to do so. The comments were reported by local media outlet Al-Joumhouria.

Berri told the newspaper: “The situation is dangerous, and all solutions remain unresolved. This framework agreement has collapsed. If Israel wants to seize territory, it can do so.”

Berri said he was not optimistic about the possibility of achieving any significant progress in the coming days, citing ongoing killings, including the deaths of children, as well as the clearing and destruction of homes.

The comments came as tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border continue, despite Lebanon and Israel signing a framework agreement in late June. Israel says its operations are aimed at eliminating threats posed by Hezbollah.
